January is the coldest month of the year in West Virginia as the temperatures plummet to the frigid zones. July, on the other hand, is undoubtedly the hottest and most humid month of the year.
West Virginia once placed 28th in the top states with the number of major hail events in 2011. Interestingly, the biggest hail recorded in this state was a 4.5-inch hail spotted in McDowell County in 1980. In summary, there were a total of 118 hailstorms from 2009 to 2018 and the worst yet was the storm of 2016 in Taylor, costing $43 million in property damage.
