Maine, also known as the Pine Tree State, currently has a population of about 1.3 million, making it the 43rd most populous state in the US. It has an average temperature of 41°F (5°C). In addition, January is the coldest month of the year in the state, as the daily high temperatures are regularly below freezing. July, on the other hand, is the hottest month as well as the peak of the tourist season. Tornadoes, cyclones, and thunderstorms are rare and mostly occur in the southern part of the state.
