Delaware, also known as the First State, has a current population of a little less than a million, making it the 46th most populous state in the US. It has an average temperature of 55.3°F (12.9°C). In addition, January is the coldest month of the year in Delaware with frigid nights statewide. July, on the other hand, is usually the hottest month with peak temperatures often exceeding 100°F (37.8°C). 

Delaware faces weather hazards in the form of thunderstorms, floods, hurricanes, and snowstorms. An average of thirty thunderstorms occur in a year. July has the highest frequency, while May to August accounts for the maximum storms in the year.

In fact, Delaware once placed 45th in the top states with the number of major hail events in 2011. Interestingly, the biggest hail recorded in this state was a 2.5-inch hail spotted in New Castle County on May 22, 2014, 15:37 EST. Furthermore, the worst hailstorm that ever hit the state was the storm of 2002 in Kent County, costing $100,000 in property damage.
